French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has called on the United States to exert greater pressure on Israel to secure a ceasefire and halt military operations in Lebanon. The appeal comes amid ongoing regional instability and concerns over the escalation of hostilities.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the minister made these remarks during an interview with the "Franceinfo" television channel. Barrot emphasized that France is actively working to organize an international conference aimed at strengthening support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, which Paris views as a critical component for long-term regional stability.

The minister’s statement follows reports that, despite calls for a ceasefire in a reported memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continue to conduct strikes against Hezbollah positions and infrastructure in southern Lebanon. Barrot underscored that diplomatic efforts must be intensified to prevent further regional spillover.

Addressing the broader geopolitical landscape, Barrot also commented on Iran's nuclear program. He stressed that France would not support the lifting of sanctions against Iran at the UN Security Council unless there is verifiable proof that Tehran is fulfilling its obligations regarding its nuclear activities. This stance highlights the delicate balance France seeks to maintain between regional de-escalation and non-proliferation efforts.

The ongoing conflict in Lebanon, which has seen significant cross-border exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah, remains a focal point of international diplomacy. France, historically maintaining close ties with Lebanon, continues to advocate for a diplomatic resolution to prevent a full-scale regional war.
