French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has stated that the "unilateral" strikes by Israel and the United States against Iran should have been discussed beforehand within collective bodies such as the United Nations.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing France 24, that the minister emphasized the importance of international legal frameworks in addressing regional conflicts.
"Only an appeal to the UN Security Council can provide the necessary legitimacy for the use of force," Barrot told reporters. He further noted that there are currently no reports of casualties or injuries among French citizens following the military actions.
The French Foreign Minister also called on Lebanon to avoid regional escalation. "France will continue to support the sovereignty and security of the Lebanese state, and we will organize a conference with them to discuss the armed forces in the region," he added.
The recent military strikes against Iranian targets have significantly heightened tensions across the Middle East, prompting various international reactions regarding the legality and consequences of such operations. France, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has historically advocated for multilateral diplomacy and the adherence to international law in resolving geopolitical crises. This stance aligns with broader European efforts to maintain regional stability and prevent a full-scale military confrontation in the Persian Gulf and Levant regions.
