European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has issued a stern warning regarding the escalating situation in the Middle East and the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the President emphasized the critical necessity of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that any closure of this vital waterway would lead to severe global consequences.

"The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is extremely damaging," von der Leyen stated, highlighting the risks to international trade and energy security. She further noted that regional stability remains unattainable as long as the bombardment of Lebanon continues, asserting that sustainable peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without a significant reduction in tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world's most important oil transit chokepoints, linking petroleum producers in the Persian Gulf with key markets across the globe. Given the current geopolitical climate, international leaders have frequently called for the protection of maritime routes to prevent further economic volatility. This statement comes amid heightened diplomatic efforts to de-escalate conflicts across the region and ensure the safety of international shipping lanes.
