Armenia's Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure has signed a memorandum of intent with the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan announced the agreement.

The memorandum outlines support for preparatory work on the construction of the strategic "Akhurik-Kayan" and "Margara-Kayan" highways. The project aims to connect these roads, which lead to customs checkpoints on the border with Turkey, to Armenia's general road network.

In the initial phase, the European Investment Bank will provide advisory support for conducting necessary technical studies and developing engineering solutions for the road infrastructure development.

These projects are being implemented within the framework of the Armenian government's "Crossroads of Peace" initiative. Minister David Khudatyan stated that the primary objective is to expand regional transport connectivity and strengthen Armenia's role as an international logistics hub.

It should be noted that there are currently no diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey, and the border has remained closed since 1993. However, in recent times, contacts have continued within the framework of a normalization process. Officials from both countries have held discussions regarding the potential restoration of road and rail links.

The European Investment Bank, as the lending arm of the European Union, frequently supports infrastructure projects in the South Caucasus aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and economic integration. Such initiatives are often viewed as critical components for long-term stability and trade development in the region.
