Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been killed following military strikes conducted by the United States and Israel.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing local media, reports that the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) has officially confirmed the death.
"The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution has been martyred," the official statement read, noting that the death occurred as a result of targeted strikes. Additionally, the Tasnim News Agency reported that Khamenei was killed early Saturday morning at his place of work.
Ali Khamenei had served as the Supreme Leader of Iran since 1989, succeeding Ruhollah Khomeini. As the highest authority in the country, he held ultimate control over the military, the judiciary, and state media. This development follows a period of heightened regional tensions involving US President Donald Trump's administration and Israeli military operations. Under the Iranian constitution, the Assembly of Experts is responsible for appointing a successor to the Supreme Leadership, while the First Vice President typically assumes temporary duties in the interim period.
