Elchin Amirbayov, the Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Special Assignments, has conducted a working visit to Cambodia to discuss the expansion of bilateral relations and the current situation in the South Caucasus. During the visit to Phnom Penh, Amirbayov held a series of high-level meetings with the President of the Cambodian Senate and Acting Head of State, Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn, and the President of the National Assembly, Khuon Sodary.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Amirbayov delivered an official invitation from President Ilham Aliyev to Prime Minister Hun Manet to attend the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), scheduled to be held in Baku this October. During the discussions, Hun Sen recalled his 2014 visit to Azerbaijan with satisfaction and requested that his greetings be conveyed to President Ilham Aliyev, noting that he considers Azerbaijan a close friend and a reliable partner. The parties also explored cooperation in energy, transport, logistics, and agriculture, with the Cambodian side acknowledging Azerbaijan's pivotal role in global energy security and its status as a vital transport hub between Asia and Europe.
The visit also focused on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Amirbayov provided detailed information on the peace process, the agreements reached in Washington last year, and the expectations for establishing lasting stability in the region. He emphasized that the upcoming political processes in Armenia, including the adoption of a new constitution, would play a decisive role in signing a final peace treaty. Furthermore, given Cambodia's extensive experience in landmine clearance, Amirbayov invited the Cambodian side to actively participate in the 4th International Humanitarian Demining Conference to be held in Baku this autumn, highlighting the ongoing large-scale restoration and reconstruction efforts in Azerbaijan's liberated territories.
