Azerbaijan exported 5,077,834 tons of crude oil and petroleum products derived from bituminous minerals during the first quarter of 2025, according to official customs declarations. The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing statistics from the State Customs Committee, reported that the total value of these crude oil exports amounted to $2,500,709,500.
The latest figures indicate a decline in energy exports compared to the same period last year, with the volume of exported crude oil falling by 15.5% and the total value decreasing by 25.1%. Despite this downturn, crude oil and petroleum products remained a cornerstone of the national economy, accounting for 46.29% of Azerbaijan's total export portfolio during the first three months of the year.
In the broader context of foreign trade, Azerbaijan conducted operations worth $9.407 billion between January and March, representing a 21.9% decrease year-on-year. Exports totaled $5.402 billion, while imports stood at $4.005 billion. Although both exports and imports saw declines of 15.4% and 29.3% respectively, the country achieved a positive trade surplus of $1.398 billion—a 93.4% increase compared to the previous year. As a major energy hub in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan continues to leverage its strategic oil and gas reserves to maintain fiscal stability and drive regional economic initiatives.
