Jeyhun Bayramov meets with UNOG Director-General in Baku

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), who is visiting the country to participate in the Global Baku Forum.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), as reported by Operative Information Center-OMM, the parties discussed the prospects of Azerbaijan-UNOG cooperation and pressing regional issues.

During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed regarding the cooperation with UNOG, with full support voiced for the organization's activities in the fields of sustainable development goals, climate change, and economic development. Tatiana Valovaya's visits to Azerbaijan and the high-level meetings held within this framework were highly appreciated.

Azerbaijan's Global Initiatives: COP29 and UN Events

It was noted that Azerbaijan continues its active engagement within the UN framework. The country's active participation in COP29 and subsequent climate summits, as well as the fact that Azerbaijan will host the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13)—one of the UN's most prestigious events—was specially emphasized.

Furthermore, the hosting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit and Azerbaijan's upcoming chairmanship of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) starting next year were among the primary topics of discussion. The role of Azerbaijan's Permanent Mission in Geneva and other institutions in strengthening ties with UNOG was noted with gratitude.

Regional Security and Peace Process at the Center of Discussions

During the talks, the UN official was provided with detailed information regarding the current situation in the region and the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process. The parties also touched upon global security issues, exchanging views on the military escalation in the Middle East.

The Global Baku Forum, where this meeting took place, has become a significant international platform for addressing global challenges. Since its inception, the forum has gathered current and former heads of state, Nobel laureates, and international organization leaders to discuss topics ranging from global health and security to climate change and economic resilience, further cementing Baku's role as a hub for international diplomacy.
