The Main State Traffic Police Department (MSTPD) of Azerbaijan has issued an urgent appeal to road users regarding the unfavorable weather conditions currently observed across the country. Due to heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures in several regions, authorities have warned of increased risks on the roads and called for heightened vigilance from both drivers and pedestrians.
The Operative Information Center-OMM was informed by the department that, in line with previous meteorological forecasts, current weather patterns are creating significant difficulties for motorists in various cities and districts. Officials emphasized that the likelihood of vehicles skidding has risen sharply, particularly in areas experiencing heavy snow. Drivers are strongly advised to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, strictly adhere to established speed limits, and avoid sudden maneuvers to prevent road accidents.
Azerbaijan's mountainous and foothill regions often experience sharp temperature drops and heavy precipitation during the winter months, leading to the icing of republican-level highways. The MSTPD regularly coordinates with relevant state agencies to ensure road safety and may restrict movement on certain high-altitude passes during extreme blizzards. All road users in Azerbaijan are urged to demonstrate mutual understanding and responsibility to minimize the risk of traffic incidents during the winter season.
