Donald Trampdan Falkland adaları ilə bağlı gözlənilməz açıqlama

US President Donald Trump has hinted that Washington may reconsider its position regarding the status of the Falkland Islands.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, when asked by journalists at the White House about whether the US position on the Falkland Islands might change, President Trump replied, "I am always reviewing every position. This is just one of many issues."

President Trump's remarks come amid reports suggesting that the US could potentially use the Falkland Islands issue as leverage to encourage the United Kingdom to increase its defense spending. According to a high-ranking US official speaking to The Telegraph, the Pentagon is currently reviewing the defense spending commitments of NATO allies, with London being a particular focus. It is suggested that a shift in the US stance on the Falkland Islands is one of the options being considered to encourage Britain to boost its military budget.

In response, UK Defense Secretary John Healey stated that his country remains committed to its goal of increasing defense spending to 3% of GDP. He rejected claims that the US might side with Argentina on the Falklands issue, emphasizing that the islands belong to Britain and will remain part of the country as long as the residents desire.

The Falkland Islands, located in the South Atlantic, have long been a subject of a sovereignty dispute between Britain and Argentina. London maintains its commitment to the islands' right to self-determination and their status as a British Overseas Territory. This is not the first time the Pentagon has raised the issue; documents circulated in April suggested that Washington could alter its stance on the Falklands if Britain failed to provide sufficient support to the US regarding issues related to Iran.
