US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and the radical Hezbollah movement have reached an agreement to cease military operations. This development marks a significant shift in the ongoing regional tensions.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the US President shared the update on the Truth Social platform.
"I had a very productive conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. No (Israeli - ed.) troops will go to Beirut; they will return," Trump stated. He further noted that he had engaged in discussions with Hezbollah representatives, who agreed to the ceasefire through high-level intermediaries.
"Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel," the US President added.
Prior to this announcement, reports citing Ali Hamdan, an advisor to the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, indicated that Hezbollah was prepared for an immediate and full ceasefire with Israel. A spokesperson for the Israeli government subsequently confirmed that the movement was ready for a ceasefire, contingent upon the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has been a major point of instability in the Middle East, with frequent cross-border exchanges of fire. Diplomatic efforts, often mediated by international partners, have been ongoing to prevent a wider regional escalation and to secure the safety of civilians on both sides of the border.
