Traffic management at the intersection of Abdulazal Demirchizade Street and Khatai Avenue in Baku is set to undergo significant changes to optimize vehicle flow and safety.
The Azerbaijan Yerüstü Nəqliyyat Agentliyi (AYNA), under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, informed Operative Information Center-OMM that the project was developed following a comprehensive analysis of the current situation and simulations conducted via "Digital Twin" technology. The project has been officially submitted to and approved by the Transport Coordination Council.
According to the new plan, the current direction of traffic on A. Demirchizade Street will be reversed, implementing a one-way traffic regime toward Tabriz Street. However, two-way traffic will be maintained from the intersection of Tabriz Street to the intersection with Garabagh Street to ensure local accessibility. To prioritize public transport, a dedicated bus lane will be established from the Garabagh Street intersection toward Khatai Avenue. Furthermore, the existing three-phase traffic light system will be replaced with a more efficient two-phase system, reducing average waiting times from 80 seconds to 40 seconds.
These infrastructure improvements in Azerbaijan's capital are part of a broader initiative to modernize urban mobility. By reducing congestion at key bottlenecks, the project aims to decrease delays during peak hours on Koroglu Rahimov and Yusif Safarov streets. This initiative serves as an interim solution until the construction of a planned tunnel connecting Agaoglu and Yusif Safarov streets, as outlined in the "State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030."
