China is preparing to supply new air defense systems to Iran within the coming weeks, according to reports from US intelligence.

The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Reuters, reports that Beijing is attempting to route the supplies through third-party countries to conceal the origin of the equipment. Sources indicate that the shipment likely includes Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems (MANPADS), which are shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles designed to target low-flying aircraft.

This military buildup occurs during a fragile geopolitical period. On February 28, the United States and Israel initiated military operations against Iran, resulting in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials. In response, Iran launched strikes against targets in Israel, as well as countries hosting US and allied military bases, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, and Cyprus.

On April 8, Iran, the United States, and their allies reached an agreement for a two-week ceasefire. The next round of high-level negotiations between the parties is scheduled to take place in Pakistan on April 11. The involvement of US President Donald Trump's administration in these diplomatic efforts remains a focal point for regional stability.

The provision of advanced weaponry by China highlights the deepening strategic partnership between Beijing and Tehran. Historically, China has maintained significant economic and energy ties with Iran, often acting as a key diplomatic counterweight to Western pressure in the region. This latest development could complicate the upcoming peace talks and the broader security architecture of the Middle East.
