Blue Origin, the aerospace company led by billionaire Jeff Bezos, has introduced a new communication network called "TeraWave," designed to shift global data traffic into space. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, this network will significantly exceed modern standards with a data transmission capacity of 6 Terabits per second (Tbps).

The project involves the deployment of a total of 5,408 satellites in Earth's orbits. The primary technical specifications of the network are as follows:

  • Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites will provide speeds of 144 Gbps;
  • Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites will reach 6 Tbps via optical links;
  • Upload and download speeds will be maintained at equal levels.

This service is primarily intended for approximately 100,000 specialized clients requiring "industrial-scale" internet, such as large data centers, cloud providers, and the defense industry, rather than individual users. Utilizing laser (optical) technology, data will be transmitted at the speed of light, ensuring both high capacity and maximum security against external interference. The launch of the satellites is scheduled to begin in 2027, utilizing Blue Origin's own heavy-lift New Glenn rockets.

The initiative represents a significant expansion of the private space sector's role in global telecommunications infrastructure. As demand for high-speed, secure data transmission grows globally, including in Azerbaijan, such satellite constellations aim to provide alternatives to traditional undersea fiber-optic cables. This development follows a broader trend of private aerospace firms competing to establish dominance in the Low Earth Orbit economy, a sector that is increasingly vital for global connectivity and national security.
