Iran has signaled that a resumption of negotiations with the United States is possible, provided that Tehran's national interests are fully secured. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this statement was made by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.
"If our national interests are guaranteed, the resumption of talks with the US is possible. Options such as 'talks or war' or 'diplomacy or war' do not benefit our country. Iran protects its interests in some cases through defensive means and in others through diplomacy," Baghaei stated.
Addressing the status of the Strait of Hormuz, the spokesperson emphasized that Iran's sovereign rights over the waterway are non-negotiable. "We are determined to protect our sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz through the measures we have taken. We will not allow this strait to be used against Iran's national security," he added.
Baghaei further noted that the provisions of the memorandum signed between Iran and the US are clear and unambiguous, asserting that there is no justification for Washington to fail in fulfilling its obligations. He warned that if it is determined that Washington is not adhering to its commitments, Tehran will reciprocate by suspending its own obligations.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a vital artery for global oil supplies. Tensions regarding the waterway have historically been a focal point of US-Iran relations, with both nations frequently asserting their strategic interests in the region.
