A significant cyberattack has targeted several government institutions in the United Kingdom, resulting in a major data breach involving law enforcement personnel. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the incident has compromised the security of over 100,000 police officers.
Reports indicate that the attackers successfully infiltrated databases belonging to the Ministry of Defense, the Home Office, the National Crime Agency (NCA), and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The hackers reportedly accessed the Police National Legal Database (PNLD), which is used by police forces in England and Wales for legal support, and subsequently published the names, contact details, and service locations of officers on dark web forums. British officials have identified the cybercriminal group known as "ExfilSquad" as the primary suspect behind the breach.
This incident highlights the growing vulnerability of critical national infrastructure to sophisticated cyber threats. Cyberattacks on government bodies have become a recurring security challenge for the UK; notably, the Department for Education also suffered a breach on July 29, which resulted in the exposure of approximately 607,000 records, including personal contact information, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity protocols across public sector institutions.
