As of 9:00 a.m. on August 28, weather conditions across most of Azerbaijan remained largely dry. However, overnight and into the morning, intermittent rain and lightning were reported in several mountainous and foothill regions of the country.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the National Hydrometeorological Service, the precipitation was intense and short-lived in certain areas. Rainfall measurements included 20 mm in Gadabay (37% of the monthly norm) and 5 mm in Gusar. Trace amounts of up to 1 mm were recorded in Kalbajar, Lachin, Qubadli, Shusha, Goygol, Qriz, Ganja, Naftalan, Shamkir, Saribash (Gakh), as well as in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula.
Strong north-westerly winds have also been observed in various locations. Maximum wind speeds reached 23 m/s in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, and up to 18 m/s in Neftchala and Julfa. Fog has been reported in Qriz and Shahdag. Maximum temperatures reached 31°C in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, 38°C in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 37°C in the lowland regions, and 26°C in mountainous areas.
The National Hydrometeorological Service regularly monitors these meteorological shifts, which are common during seasonal transitions in Azerbaijan. The country's diverse geography, ranging from high-altitude mountainous terrain to lowland plains, often results in localized weather phenomena, necessitating constant updates from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources to ensure public safety and agricultural preparedness.
