Following the temporary suspension of flights at Nakhchivan International Airport, air travel for Azerbaijani citizens between the capital and Nakhchivan is being facilitated through flights from Baku to the Turkish city of Igdir. The transportation of passengers from Igdir to Nakhchivan and vice versa is being carried out free of charge via special buses provided by the Azerbaijan Yerüstü Nəqliyyat Agentliyi (AYNA).
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that AYNA has released details regarding the ongoing transportation process.
According to the official statement, seven large-capacity buses are currently operating between the Nakhchivan Bus Terminal and Igdir Airport. Additionally, reserve vehicles have been allocated to ensure the continuity and efficiency of the transport services. Since March 5, a total of 34 trips have been completed, with 1,442 individuals transported between Nakhchivan and Igdir. The process is currently ongoing to ensure uninterrupted travel for residents and visitors.
Nakhchivan, an exclave of Azerbaijan, relies heavily on air and land transit for connectivity with the rest of the country. The temporary adjustment in flight schedules and the utilization of Igdir as a transit hub highlights the strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in maintaining vital transport links. These measures are part of the government's efforts to minimize travel disruptions for citizens during the modernization or maintenance periods of regional infrastructure.
