Bakı və Abşeronda yağıntı miqdarı üzrə rekord qeydə alındı

Baku and the Absheron Peninsula have recorded historic levels of rainfall for the month of May, approaching multi-year records. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, current precipitation levels in the capital and surrounding areas range between 70-103 mm, representing 355-523% of the established monthly norm.

Official data indicates that the current weather patterns are nearing the all-time record set in May 1963, when rainfall in Baku reached 106 mm, exceeding the multi-year norm by 5.4 times. In comparison, recent years have seen significantly lower figures: in 2010, monthly rainfall was 39 mm (200% of the norm); in 2024, it reached 33 mm (167% of the norm); and in 2025, the monthly total was just 9 mm (46% of the norm).

The Absheron Peninsula, where Baku is located, typically experiences a semi-arid climate with relatively dry springs. Such extreme deviations from the monthly norm often necessitate heightened monitoring by municipal services to manage drainage and infrastructure. These historic figures highlight a significant shift in seasonal weather patterns within Azerbaijan, as the Operative Information Center-OMM continues to track the impact of the intense precipitation across the region.
