A new phase in the capital's transport system has commenced with the commissioning of the Albalilig electric bus depot located in the Khazar district of Baku. This infrastructure facility serves 167 BYD-branded fully electric buses produced in Azerbaijan in 2025.
According to information provided by the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Azerbaijan Yerustü Nəqliyyat Agentliyi (AYNA) under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the initiative marks a significant step toward the modernization of urban mobility. The new depot is strategically positioned to ensure rapid deployment and efficient charging for the growing electric fleet.
New electric buses connect suburban settlements
The new buses directly connect the settlements of Mardakan, Shuvalan, Bilgah, Buzovna, Gala, Mashtagha, and Nardaran with the Koroglu Transport Exchange Center. This strategic approach allows buses to reach service areas more quickly from the depot and facilitates rapid energy replenishment. Currently, the entire fleet for seven route lines (140, 150, 172, 189, 140E, 141E, and M8) has been fully renewed and electrified.
Environmental benefits and fleet redistribution
The eco-friendly BMC-branded buses previously used on these routes have been redeployed by BakuBus LLC to strengthen existing routes in other areas of the capital. By taking passenger demand into account, the addition of these vehicles to other lines has reduced congestion and increased the accessibility of public transport across Baku.
Electric buses are a core element of a green and sustainable transport system. They prevent the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere, improve air quality, and minimize noise pollution. This innovation represents a significant contribution to the ecological situation in Azerbaijan and the development of a modern public transport infrastructure. The transition aligns with the country's broader commitment to sustainable development and the expansion of "green energy" initiatives in the transport sector.
