Alternative bus routes will be established in Baku to ensure uninterrupted passenger transportation during the reconstruction and line separation works carried out in the Baku Metro.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this was announced by Anar Rzayev, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Surface Transport Agency (AYNA), during a round table dedicated to the implementation of the State Program for the improvement of transport infrastructure in Baku and surrounding areas for 2025–2030.
Rzayev noted that the necessity for passengers to make additional transfers and change vehicles in certain directions could lead to congestion within the metro system.
“If passenger flow is not properly regulated, congestion will occur inside the metro, making it impossible to reduce train intervals. For this reason, we are implementing alternative transport solutions,”he stated.
He further added that based on current calculations, a specific portion of the passenger flow will be temporarily diverted to buses.
“To this end, 11 temporary bus routes will be created. These routes will primarily ensure passenger transport along intensive directions such as 'Nizami–28 May' and 'Ajami–28 May.' The buses will compensate for any limitations that may arise in the metro's operation,”Rzayev explained.
The Baku Metro, which began operations in 1967, serves as the backbone of the capital's public transport system. The current reconstruction and line separation project is a strategic initiative aimed at modernizing the aging infrastructure and increasing the frequency of trains by separating the Red and Green lines, which currently share tracks at several key junctions. These improvements are part of a broader state effort to modernize Azerbaijan's transport network and reduce traffic congestion in the capital city.
