Construction of the Darnagul electric depot for the Baku metro is scheduled for completion in 2027, marking a significant milestone in the capital's infrastructure development. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this was announced by Anar Rzayev, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Surface Transport Agency (AYNA).

According to the official statement, the resumption of construction at the Darnagul depot follows years of suspension, now proceeding in accordance with the State Program adopted in 2025. Rzayev detailed the technical progress of the project, noting that excavation work is currently underway at two shafts as part of the line separation project near the 28 May station. Furthermore, communications have been clarified and the site prepared for the construction of a turnaround chamber following the Icherisheher station, while reconstruction at the Hazi Aslanov station's dead-end tracks has reached its next phase.

“Excavation work is being carried out in two shafts, which is a key component of the line separation project in the area of the 28 May station. For the construction of the turnaround chamber after the Icherisheher station, communications have been clarified and the site has been made ready for construction. Reconstruction work on the dead-end track of the Hazi Aslanov station has reached the next stage.”

The State Program outlines an ambitious expansion for the Baku metro, with plans to construct 10 new stations. This initiative represents the largest expansion phase in the history of the Baku metro to be implemented within such a short timeframe. One of these new stations is expected to be commissioned as early as 2026, following accelerated repair and construction efforts at the B4 project station over the past year.

The Baku metro, which first opened in 1967, serves as the backbone of the capital's public transport system. These modernization projects aim to increase the efficiency of the network, enhance passenger comfort, and integrate the underground system into a more modern and sustainable urban transport framework in Azerbaijan.
