The third day of Baku Climate Action Week focused on implementing climate commitments, cooperation and measurable results. Climate leaders highlighted the importance of moving from negotiations to concrete action.
A high-level roundtable organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center was held earlier in the day. Participants discussed the development of global climate leadership over the past decade and the experience gained since the adoption of the Paris Agreement.
They examined the impact of changing geopolitical conditions on international climate cooperation, as well as energy security, economic competitiveness, healthcare, food systems, technology and sustainable development.
The discussions emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation among governments, international organizations, financial institutions, businesses and civil society. Participants said climate pledges must be translated into practical results.
Countries are facing growing pressure to move beyond negotiations and present projects and solutions that can directly benefit communities. At the opening of Climate Week, Simon Stiell, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, said Baku had moved beyond symbolism to become “a reference point for delivering results.”
He said the main challenge was to ensure that commitments made in negotiating rooms were transformed into projects, investments and real protection for people.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also addressed the event, stressing the importance of continuing international cooperation and action on climate challenges.
The discussions in Baku come as the global climate process prepares for COP31, which will be held in Antalya, Türkiye, in November. Participants said the next phase should focus primarily on implementation, accountability and measurable progress.
