Employees of the Balakan Customs Department of the State Customs Committee (SCC) have successfully intercepted and seized a significant quantity of narcotics, specifically opium, preventing its illegal circulation within the country.

This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the State Customs Committee.

According to the report, a vehicle transporting passenger cars from Georgia to Iran via transit through Azerbaijan was subjected to a customs inspection at the "Mazimgara" customs post. The inspection, which utilized a canine unit, revealed 385 grams of opium concealed within the tractor unit of the transport vehicle.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

The State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan frequently conducts such operations at border checkpoints to combat transnational organized crime and drug trafficking. These measures are part of the country's broader strategy to secure its borders and ensure national security by strictly enforcing customs regulations and monitoring transit routes passing through the Republic of Azerbaijan.
