Today, the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group officially commenced in Baku under the high patronage of President Ilham Aliyev.
This information was reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the event organizers. Held under the theme "Regional Integration for Sustainable Prosperity," the flagship event of the IsDB Group—a multilateral development institution with an "AAA" rating from the Global South—has brought together policymakers, development experts, and financial leaders from the IsDB Group's 57 member countries and beyond.
The theme of this year's meetings reflects the growing importance of regional integration as a driving force for sustainable development and shared prosperity. This aligns closely with the IsDB Group's Ten-Year Strategic Framework (2026–2035), which identifies regional integration as a fundamental pillar for promoting inclusive, sustainable, and resilient development across its member nations. The 2026 Annual Meetings mark the second time Azerbaijan has hosted the IsDB Group's premier international event in the last 16 years, with the previous occasion taking place in 2010.
The meetings are attended by ministers responsible for finance, economy, planning, and international development, as well as high-level representatives from leading international financial institutions, global development organizations, and strategic partners. The event serves as a high-level platform for dialogue, cooperation, and knowledge exchange aimed at addressing shared development priorities and advancing sustainable socio-economic progress.
Throughout the meetings, participants will engage in significant discussions on emerging development challenges and opportunities, focusing on identifying innovative and practical solutions that contribute to long-term global development and resilience.
The program includes statutory meetings of the Boards of Governors, a "Fireside Chat" with the IsDB Group Chairman, a Governors' Dialogue, the IsDB Group Private Sector Forum, the Multilateral Development Banks Business Opportunities Forum, the Arab Coordination Group (ACG) Private Sector Session, as well as a series of high-level roundtables, networking opportunities, exhibitions, and knowledge-sharing events. Together, these sessions will explore key development priorities, including Islamic finance, youth employability, sustainability and climate adaptation, development of the halal ecosystem, regional energy interconnections, trade and connectivity, artificial intelligence and digital economies, innovation and startups, labeled sukuk, regional health security, social protection systems, and other pressing development challenges.
