On April 12, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran officially resumed its operations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) informed Operative Information Center-OMM that the diplomatic mission has returned to its duties following the completion of necessary security and organizational arrangements. In the initial phase, the embassy will operate with a limited number of diplomatic and administrative staff, including the ambassador.
According to the MFA, the restoration of the embassy's activities is being managed in a phased manner, taking into account all relevant security protocols. The decision to resume operations shortly after the cessation of military activities and the announcement of a two-week ceasefire in the region serves as a clear example of the special importance Azerbaijan attaches to its relations with neighboring and friendly Iran.
The reopening of the diplomatic mission in Tehran marks a significant step in normalizing bilateral ties between Baku and Tehran. Relations had faced challenges following a security incident at the embassy in January 2023, which led to the temporary suspension of its activities. The Republic of Azerbaijan reaffirms its support for initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable peace and stability in the region, emphasizing that the restoration of diplomatic channels is vital for regional cooperation and security.
