On June 22, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov delivered statements to the press in Baku.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev opened the session by welcoming the Turkmen leader and emphasizing the strength of the friendship and brotherhood between the two nations.
President Aliyev highlighted the ongoing reconstruction efforts in the Garabagh region, specifically expressing gratitude to Turkmenistan and Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the initiative to construct a mosque in the city of Fuzuli. The President noted that this gesture serves as a testament to the sincere relations between the two countries.
The leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including transport and logistics. President Aliyev underscored the strategic importance of secure transit routes, noting that Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are coordinating efforts to increase cargo flows. Furthermore, the President expressed appreciation for Turkmenistan's support regarding Azerbaijan's integration into the Consultative Council of Central Asian Heads of State, viewing it as a significant geopolitical development.
In his statement, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked the Azerbaijani side for the hospitality and the productive discussions held during the visit. He emphasized that the bilateral relations are developing dynamically based on equality and mutual benefit.
President Berdimuhamedov highlighted that the two countries have agreed to deepen cooperation in energy, transport, chemicals, and textiles. He noted that the signing of a package of bilateral documents marks a new stage in the partnership. The Turkmen leader concluded by reaffirming the importance of shared history, culture, and language in binding the two nations together, wishing the people of Azerbaijan continued peace and prosperity.
