President Ilham Aliyev has reiterated the strategic importance of the Zangezur corridor, noting that international partners, including the US administration, have recognized the project's vital role in connecting the main territory of Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev made these remarks during the opening of the IV Shusha Global Media Forum.
“They understood that the Zangezur corridor is an essential project, as it will connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan region,” the head of state said. “They worked very effectively and also explained to Armenia that this peace is necessary for Armenia as well. Naturally, during a historic meeting at the White House, I, US President Donald Trump, and the Prime Minister of Armenia signed a trilateral statement. At the same time, the foreign ministers of the two countries initialed the peace agreement.”
The Zangezur corridor is widely viewed as a transformative infrastructure project for the South Caucasus. By establishing a direct transport link between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the corridor is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity, boost trade, and serve as a crucial component of the Middle Corridor, linking East-West transit routes. The project remains a central pillar in the ongoing normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
