Minister of Culture Adil Karimli has acknowledged the presence of non-professional staff within the library system, signaling a need for personnel reforms to improve the sector's overall efficacy.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the minister made these remarks during a public discussion held by the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) Committee on Culture, titled "Current State and Development Prospects of the Library System." Karimli was responding to observations raised by Fazil Mustafa, chairman of the Committee on Public Associations and Religious Organizations, regarding the current state of the nation's libraries.
While addressing the shortcomings, the minister emphasized that the sector also benefits from highly dedicated professionals. "We highly value their work. We are truly proud of our librarians working in remote districts, often under difficult conditions. They work out of a genuine love for books," Karimli stated.
The minister outlined that a primary objective for the Ministry of Culture is to ensure that only individuals with higher education are recruited into the library sector. Furthermore, Karimli stressed that improving working conditions remains a critical priority, noting that poor infrastructure and a lack of adherence to modern standards remain significant challenges for the development of library services across Azerbaijan.
The library system in Azerbaijan serves as a vital component of the country's cultural and educational infrastructure. In recent years, the government has prioritized the modernization of cultural institutions, aiming to integrate digital technologies and improve the physical facilities of libraries to better serve the public and promote literacy.
