Azerbaijan must achieve 100 percent self-sufficiency in meat, milk, and poultry products, President Ilham Aliyev said during a meeting dedicated to agricultural issues.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state noted current self-sufficiency levels are around 80-90 percent. "I believe there are opportunities to bring this to 100 percent, and this program, as I mentioned, should be short-term, covering the years 2026-2030. Considering that almost half of 2026 is already behind us, only four and a half years remain for the implementation of this program. Therefore, state funding for the program must be allocated this year," President Ilham Aliyev said.
The president instructed the government, the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Economy, and other relevant bodies to work actively with the private sector. Preliminary estimates indicate that implementing the state-backed measures will require over 2 billion manats, while the private sector's contribution is expected to exceed 3 billion manats. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that work must begin immediately after the program is officially adopted.
This initiative is part of Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts to strengthen food security and diversify its national economy. By boosting local agricultural production, the government aims to reduce import dependency and stimulate economic growth in rural regions, including the newly reconstructed areas of Garabagh.
