The second round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Chile has been held in Santiago, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the consultations took place on May 6-7 during the official visit of Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov to Chile. The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Minister Mammadov, while the Chilean side was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Patricio Torres.

During the consultations, the parties discussed the current state and development prospects of relations in political, economic, humanitarian, energy, cultural, and tourism sectors. Both sides expressed mutual support for establishing cooperation between relevant agencies to promote trade, business, and investment opportunities. The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on academic cooperation between ADA University and Chile's "Andres Bello" Diplomatic Academy.

The Azerbaijani delegation also met with Paula Estevez Weinstein, Chile's Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, to review joint initiatives for economic promotion. Further meetings were held with high-ranking officials of the Chilean National Congress, including Senate Vice President Ivan Moreira and Manuel Jose Ossandon, President of the Foreign Relations Commission. Discussions focused on enhancing parliamentary diplomacy and mutual support within international platforms. Additionally, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov delivered a presentation on "Azerbaijan's Foreign Policy" at the "Andres Bello" Diplomatic Academy.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Chile have seen steady growth since being established in 1994. As Azerbaijan continues to expand its diplomatic footprint in Latin America, such political consultations serve as a vital mechanism for aligning strategic interests, particularly in the energy sector and non-oil trade. These high-level engagements underscore Baku's commitment to diversifying its international partnerships and fostering inter-parliamentary dialogue across the globe.
