The State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan has detained three individuals planning a terrorist attack against a foreign embassy in Baku during a special operation.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the SSS Press Service reported that the suspects were apprehended while attempting to approach the diplomatic mission's premises, effectively preventing the planned act of terror.
The investigation identified the suspects as Azerbaijani citizens Ilgar Guliyev (born 2000, alias "Abu Zar al-Muhajir"), Amin Piriyev (born 2005, alias "Abdurashid"), and Elvin Alizade (born 2005, alias "Abdurrahman al-Azari"). Evidence suggests the group established criminal ties with members of the ISIS-K (Vilayat-Khorasan) international terrorist organization. The suspects had acquired weapons and other items to carry out the attack in the capital based on religious hostility. They have been charged under relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan concerning the preparation of terrorism by a group, and a court has ordered their pre-trial detention.
Azerbaijan maintains a rigorous counter-terrorism posture, frequently conducting operations to neutralize threats from international extremist groups. The State Security Service-SSS is the primary agency responsible for protecting the country's constitutional order and preventing foreign-linked sabotage. In recent years, Azerbaijan has strengthened its security cooperation with international partners to combat the spread of radical ideologies and ensure the safety of diplomatic missions within Baku.
