The European Union has indicated that it does not intend to accelerate the disbursement of a 90 billion euro loan package to Ukraine, despite the country's significant and urgent financial requirements.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Paula Pinyu, head of the European Commission's press service, stated during a briefing that while the institution fully acknowledges Ukraine's current economic difficulties and immediate financial needs, it remains committed to the established timeline.
Pinyu emphasized that the primary focus is currently on the implementation of the pre-approved financing plan. She noted that under this ambitious framework, loan funds will be disbursed in stages over a two-year period, strictly adhering to the initial agreement.
The statement follows a request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who had urged the European Union to release 10 billion dollars of the funds originally earmarked for 2027 ahead of schedule. During his address at the "Ukraine – Northern Europe and the Baltic Countries" summit, Zelensky called on partner nations to expedite the delivery of financial support to bolster the country's resilience.
The European Union's financial assistance programs are critical for Ukraine, which continues to face severe economic strain due to the ongoing conflict. Kyiv has consistently appealed to international partners to increase and accelerate financial aid to mitigate the war's impact on its national budget and infrastructure. The EU's decision reflects a broader policy of maintaining structured, long-term financial commitments rather than ad-hoc adjustments to funding schedules.
