Pakistan views Azerbaijan as a key strategic partner, with bilateral relations continuing to strengthen across multiple sectors. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the press service of the Pakistani presidency, these remarks were made by President Asif Ali Zardari during a farewell meeting with Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, at the Aiwan-e-Sadr presidential residence.
President Zardari stated that Pakistan highly values Azerbaijan as a reliable brotherly nation and a strategic partner. He noted that bilateral relations, built on mutual trust and unwavering support for each other's core interests, are continuing to deepen. The President expressed satisfaction with the increased parliamentary, business, cultural, and humanitarian exchanges between the two nations.
Furthermore, Zardari reaffirmed the commitment of both leaderships to translate their shared vision into concrete results in trade, investment, transport connectivity, information technology, climate change mitigation, and tourism, as well as expanding cooperation in defense and security. He specifically commended Ambassador Farhadov for his contributions to strengthening the long-standing fraternal ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, highlighting his role in organizing the historic state visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Pakistan in July 2024, which marked a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan have maintained strong diplomatic ties since the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence. The relationship is characterized by high-level political dialogue and significant cooperation in the defense sector, with Pakistan being one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence in 1991. The two nations frequently coordinate on international platforms, supporting each other's positions on critical issues, including the Garabagh region.
