The State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan has initiated administrative proceedings against two major retail chains, Araz Supermarket and Bazarstore, for violating pricing regulations.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, monitoring conducted on April 15, 2026, revealed that Araz Supermarket LLC was selling food products at prices higher than those displayed on the labels. This discrepancy was identified as a violation of Article 13.1 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Protection of Consumer Rights."

The incident was documented under Article 447.0.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which pertains to the minor deception of consumers regarding the calculation of goods. The agency noted that a similar protocol had been issued against the company previously on January 22, 2026, indicating a recurring issue with pricing transparency.

Similar administrative measures were also taken against Bazarstore LLC.

The agency reported that inspectors discovered instances where food products were sold at prices exceeding the marked amounts, constituting a direct violation of the same legislative requirements regarding consumer protection.

Under Article 447.0.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, the deception of consumers regarding the measurement, weight, calculation, or quality of goods carries significant financial penalties. Legal entities found in violation face fines ranging from 4,000 to 6,000 manats. The State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control continues to conduct regular inspections across Azerbaijan to ensure market compliance and protect consumer interests from unfair trade practices.
