Azerbaijan's National Hydrometeorological Service has issued yellow and orange weather warnings for Baku, the Absheron Peninsula, and several regions across the country due to expected strong winds and unstable weather conditions on April 9.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that according to the official statement, an orange warning has been issued for Agstafa, Gazakh, Ganja, Mingachevir, Barda, Tartar, Aghdam, Kalbajar, Yevlakh, Zardab, Goychay, Gusar, Balakan, Zagatala, Sheki, Gakh, Gabala, Ismayilli, Shamakhi, Gobustan, Neftchala, Goranboy, Dashkasan, and Naftalan. In these areas, northwest winds are expected to reach speeds of 20.8 to 28.4 meters per second. Meanwhile, a yellow warning is in effect for Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, where wind speeds are projected to range between 13.9 and 20.7 meters per second.
In addition to the wind, precipitation is expected across most regions of Azerbaijan throughout the day. The National Hydrometeorological Service noted that rainfall may become intense in specific locations, accompanied by lightning and hail. There is also a possibility of snow in some mountainous areas as temperatures fluctuate.
Weather warnings in Azerbaijan are categorized by color to indicate the level of potential risk to public safety and infrastructure. An orange warning signifies that the weather is dangerous and could lead to damage or accidents, while a yellow warning indicates that the weather is potentially hazardous, advising citizens to remain cautious during outdoor activities. Such seasonal weather shifts are common in the Caucasus region during the spring months as cold air masses interact with warming land surfaces.
