In accordance with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, the Great Return program to the liberated territories of Azerbaijan continues to be implemented. On the latest stage of the program, another relocation caravan has departed for the city of Khojavand, carrying 33 families consisting of 142 people.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing AZERTAC, reports that the returning residents were previously settled in temporary accommodation across various parts of Azerbaijan, including dormitories, sanatoriums, and administrative buildings. The relocation process is part of a systematic effort to ensure the sustainable settlement of citizens in the territories liberated from occupation.
The residents returning to their native lands expressed their deep gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva for the comprehensive state care and attention provided to them. They also voiced their appreciation to the courageous Azerbaijani Army and the heroic soldiers and officers who liberated the lands, while honoring the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country's territorial integrity.
The Great Return program is a strategic state priority aimed at the reconstruction and restoration of the Garabagh and East Zangezur economic regions. Following the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020 and subsequent local anti-terror measures, Azerbaijan has launched large-scale infrastructure projects, including the construction of "smart villages" and modern urban centers, to facilitate the safe and dignified return of hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.
