Germany has not ruled out participating in missions to ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz once the current conflict involving Iran concludes, according to statements made by German official Alexander Dobrindt.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media, that Berlin is prepared to provide technical and security support under specific conditions. "We may be required to take action in the Strait of Hormuz. If this involves mine clearance or something similar, it is possible," the official stated, emphasizing a focus on post-conflict stabilization.

Dobrindt supported Chancellor Friedrich Merz's position that Germany does not intend to become an active combatant in the Iran-related conflict:

"We are not participating, we have not been asked before, and we are not a party to the conflict. Germany can remain outside of this situation," he added.

This development follows a request from US President Donald Trump for assistance from several countries, including NATO allies, to secure shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump previously expressed dissatisfaction with certain nations that declined to provide immediate military support in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategic maritime chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes. Ensuring the security of this waterway is considered vital for global energy markets and international trade stability. Germany's potential involvement in demining efforts aligns with its traditional foreign policy of contributing to international security through specialized technical expertise rather than direct offensive military engagement.
