According to a statement released by the US Department of State, a meeting was held in Washington between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Mexican Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco Alvarez.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the discussions focused on strategic security issues of mutual importance between the two nations.

During the negotiations, the US side demanded that Mexico take decisive action across several key areas. A primary focus was the prevention of illegal migration and the cessation of unauthorized crossings along the US-Mexico border.

The parties also discussed strengthening cooperation to prevent the trafficking of fentanyl and other illicit narcotics into US territory. The US side emphasized the critical necessity of intensifying the fight against drug cartels and international criminal organizations, aiming to limit their operational capabilities and ensure their disarmament.

According to US officials, these measures are essential for ensuring stability and security in the region. The US-Mexico border remains one of the most active and complex frontiers in the world, serving as a critical corridor for both trade and migration, which necessitates ongoing high-level diplomatic coordination to address transnational security challenges.
