US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has announced that the US Navy will soon begin escorting commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz as part of operations directed toward Iranian threats.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the statement was first reported by Fox News. The Secretary emphasized that the deployment of naval assets to provide security for maritime traffic will take place at the "right time" to ensure global energy security and freedom of navigation.

The move follows recent escalations in the region. On March 2, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued threats stating that any tanker attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz could be targeted. This strategic waterway is one of the world's most vital oil transit chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes daily.

The decision reflects the firm stance of the administration under US President Donald Trump to protect international shipping lanes from regional interference. The Strait of Hormuz, located between Oman and Iran, connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Given its narrow width and high volume of traffic, any disruption in the strait can lead to significant volatility in global energy markets and impact international trade stability.
