Zira has successfully kicked off its campaign in the 2026/2027 UEFA Conference League season.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the team, led by head coach Rashad Sadigov, hosted Georgia’s Torpedo in the first qualifying round.
The match, held at the Sumgait City Stadium, concluded with a decisive 3-0 victory for the Azerbaijani representative.
Ruan Renato opened the scoring in the 32nd minute. David Volkov extended the lead to two goals in the 48th minute, and Renato secured his brace by converting a penalty in the 63rd minute.
The return leg between the two sides is scheduled to take place in Georgia on July 16. This victory provides Zira with a significant advantage as they aim to progress to the next stage of the European competition.
The UEFA Conference League, established in 2021, serves as the third tier of European club football, providing clubs from various national leagues across the continent, including Azerbaijan, with increased opportunities to compete on the international stage and gain valuable experience.
