Ukraine has faced another massive aerial assault as Russian forces launched a coordinated drone and missile attack on the capital, Kyiv, overnight. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the strikes resulted in at least 10 fatalities and left 56 people injured.

Reports indicate that the attack caused severe damage to residential buildings across various districts of the city, including a fire at a hotel located on Shevchenko Boulevard. Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Military Administration, stated that approximately 36 locations across the capital sustained damage. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the first six floors of a residential building were completely destroyed.

Emergency rescue teams are currently conducting search and rescue operations for individuals trapped under the rubble. Among the casualties are medical personnel and drivers who were responding to the scene. In response to the escalating security threat, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cut short his visit to Dublin, Ireland, to return to his country. As a precautionary measure, Poland briefly scrambled its fighter jets to secure its airspace.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has seen a significant intensification in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by both sides in recent days. While President Zelenskyy has previously proposed direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt the hostilities, the Kremlin has consistently rejected these diplomatic initiatives. The war, which began in February 2022, continues to have profound geopolitical implications for Eastern Europe and global security architecture.
