The remains of six more martyrs, whose identities have been confirmed, will be returned to their families tomorrow. This process marks another step in the ongoing efforts to provide closure to the families of those who went missing during the conflicts in the region.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the announcement was made by Adalat Hasanov, Director of the Forensic Medical Examination and Pathological Anatomy Union of the Ministry of Health, during an international conference titled "Modern approaches and strengthening cooperation in solving the issue of missing persons."
Hasanov provided an update on the extensive work being conducted regarding the First Garabagh War. He noted that the Forensic Medical Examination and Pathological Anatomy Union has received bone remains belonging to a total of 934 individuals to date. "Of the submitted remains, those belonging to 206 individuals were exhumed from unknown martyr graves, while remains belonging to 79 individuals were exhumed from graves of martyrs buried without identification to clarify their identities. To date, the remains of 377 individuals have been identified, and the bodies of 226 martyrs have been handed over to their families with the decision and participation of the State Commission," he stated.
Hasanov further confirmed that the remains of six additional missing martyrs are scheduled to be returned to their families on July 1 and July 3.
The issue of missing persons remains a critical humanitarian priority for the Republic of Azerbaijan. Following the liberation of its territories, the government has intensified efforts to locate, identify, and return the remains of those who went missing during the First Garabagh War, utilizing advanced forensic technologies and international cooperation to address this long-standing national tragedy.
