Putin and Pezeshkian hold bilateral talks in Bishkek

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Putin, who arrived in Bishkek to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event.

The negotiations took place at the Ala-Archa State Residence. The Russian delegation included Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Maxim Oreshkin, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, and Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev.

The two leaders last met in December of the previous year in Turkmenistan.

Prior to the meeting, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, emphasized that the discussions between Putin and Pezeshkian hold significant importance, particularly against the backdrop of current tensions in the Middle East. The talks focused on regional security issues, the situation in the Middle East, and ongoing geopolitical processes surrounding Iran.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, founded in 2001, serves as a key Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance. Meetings between leaders of member states like Russia and Iran during these summits are critical for coordinating policies on regional stability and economic cooperation.
