Venezuelan authorities have secured access to $346 million of their own funds previously held by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). These financial resources are designated for emergency relief and recovery efforts following a recent, destructive earthquake.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the announcement was made by Delcy Rodriguez, acting on behalf of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Rodriguez stated that the funds will be prioritized for providing aid to affected families, reconstructing residential housing, repairing critical infrastructure, and restoring essential public utilities.

Rodriguez also expressed gratitude to IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva for the organization's support during this crisis. The earthquake, which struck on June 24, has resulted in a significant humanitarian emergency. According to the latest official reports, the disaster has claimed 5,069 lives, left 16,740 people injured, and displaced 17,907 residents, necessitating urgent international and domestic recovery measures.

The International Monetary Fund, headquartered in Washington, D.C., plays a crucial role in global financial stability. While Venezuela has faced complex economic challenges in recent years, the release of these specific assets highlights the IMF's mechanism for providing emergency liquidity to member nations facing catastrophic natural disasters.
