The United Kingdom government has appointed Duncan Norman as the new ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Norman has been named the head of the British diplomatic mission in Baku, succeeding the outgoing ambassador, Fergus Auld.

The newly appointed ambassador shared his remarks on his official account on the "X" social media platform: "I am honored to be appointed as the next UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan! I look forward to building on the foundations of our bilateral relationship and continuing the important work on our shared priorities to deepen the UK-Azerbaijan partnership."

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom were established in 1992, shortly after Azerbaijan regained its independence. Since then, the two nations have developed a robust strategic partnership, particularly in the energy sector, with major British firms playing a pivotal role in the development of Azerbaijan's oil and gas resources in the Caspian Sea. Beyond energy, the bilateral cooperation extends to trade, education, and security, reflecting the growing importance of the South Caucasus region in global geopolitics.
