Seven cars of a passenger train traveling from Chelyabinsk to Moscow derailed in Russia's Ulyanovsk region early Wednesday morning.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Russian Railways (RZD) released an official statement regarding the incident, which occurred at approximately 06:26 Moscow time near the Bryandino station.

The train, operating as flight number 302 on the Chelyabinsk-Moscow route, was carrying passengers when the derailment took place. According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, there were no fatalities reported at the scene. Information regarding the number of injuries is currently being clarified, and rail traffic on this specific section of the track has been temporarily suspended to allow for emergency operations.

Recovery trains from Ulyanovsk, Bugulma, Syzran, and Ruzayevka have been dispatched to the site to mitigate the consequences of the accident. Additionally, extra carriages are being prepared for the evacuation of passengers. Investigators, forensic experts, and emergency service personnel are currently working at the site, and the prosecutor's office has initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances of the derailment.

The Ulyanovsk region, located in the Volga Federal District, serves as a critical junction for Russia's extensive rail network, connecting the Ural Mountains and Siberia with the capital, Moscow. Rail accidents in the region often lead to significant logistical delays across the national network, as authorities prioritize safety inspections and infrastructure repairs following such incidents.
