Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated on Tuesday that the Iranian public's dissatisfaction regarding internet restrictions is "completely justified."
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the spokesperson commented on the extensive internet restrictions that have persisted for over 70 days, describing the situation as a "digital blackout."
According to Mohajerani, internet access is a fundamental right, and the current limitations have caused significant social discontent. She attributed the restrictions to "hostile activities undermining the security environment" and noted that the "Internet Pro" multi-tier system is intended to ensure stable connectivity for businesses. The spokesperson added that full access is expected to be restored once security risks are mitigated.
Iran has a long history of implementing strict internet controls and censorship, often intensifying these measures during periods of civil unrest or heightened regional tensions. International human rights organizations and digital watchdogs have frequently criticized Tehran for these "blackouts," arguing they impede freedom of expression and disrupt the national economy.
