At least 16 people have died and 28 others were injured after a passenger bus overturned in Egypt's South Sinai governorate, according to local authorities.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, the accident occurred on the Dahab-Nuweiba highway during the morning hours. The bus reportedly lost control and overturned while in transit.
Initial reports indicate that 16 individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash. Following the incident, 20 ambulances were dispatched to the area to provide emergency assistance. The 28 injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals after receiving initial medical care. Their conditions are currently being monitored by medical staff.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the precise cause of the crash. Traffic accidents are relatively common in Egypt, often attributed to poor road conditions, speeding, and lax enforcement of traffic regulations, prompting ongoing efforts by the government to improve road safety infrastructure across the country.
