The landslide zone on the Bibiheybat road in Baku has been activated following intense rainfall over recent days, posing significant risks to local infrastructure.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Ali Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of the Geological Exploration Agency of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, confirmed the heightened activity. According to Aliyev, increased movement has also been recorded in existing landslide areas within the Zigh settlement of the Khatai district, the Badamdar settlement of the Sabail district, and along the Salyan highway.

"The Operative Monitoring Group is currently conducting observations in the landslide zones. Relevant government agencies are implementing necessary preventive measures in these areas to mitigate risks," Aliyev stated. Official data indicates that on April 5-6, the amount of precipitation in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula exceeded the monthly norm by four times, leading to soil saturation and instability.

In response to the immediate threat, the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a joint statement announcing partial restrictions on vehicle movement on the Bibiheybat road. To ensure the safety of commuters, drivers are requested to use the old Salyan highway via the area known as "20th Area" as an alternative route.

Landslides in the coastal and hilly terrains of Baku are often exacerbated by seasonal heavy rains and the specific geological structure of the Absheron Peninsula. The Sabail district, particularly the Bibiheybat and Badamdar areas, has historically been prone to such geological shifts. Authorities in Azerbaijan continue to monitor these zones using specialized sensors and geological surveys to provide early warnings and maintain the integrity of the capital's primary transport arteries.
